Site Work Underway or Completed

We are actively working to upgrade the site. Various projects are finished or underway. These include:

A large-scale cleanup of the site is nearly complete.
Electrical power and yard lighting has been completed. Moreau Grand Electric Cooperative has staked and laid out the power line extensions to the monument site in cooperation with the Foundation.
A tentative commitment is in place to assist in the installation of an electronic security system/web cam for the monument area.
Aerial photographs of the site were taken on July 7th, 2005, and are being utilized along with other maps and photos to assist in developing a site layout plan.
Signs have been posted at the entrance to the site and at other locations stating the hours the site is open to the public, the hours it is closed, along with prohibition warnings [no illegal dumping, no alcohol allowed, violators will be prosecuted].

Budget estimates are being formulated for the following:

Resurfacing of the main access road to the monument which has deteriorated.
Repair of the bust and monument along with landscaping of the burial mound and monument area.
Picnic area development.
Design and construction of a new sign at the junction of U.S. Highway 12 and S.D. Highway 1806 which provides information about the site.
